MS-01: DCCC SMASH!

Holy smokes.  This should make the chocolate milk come spurting out of Tom Cole’s nose.

The DCCC just made a huge independent expenditure in Mississippi today, to the tune of $702,642.

The expenditures include $350K on an ad buys hitting GOP candidate Greg Davis, and another $350K on a media buy supporting Democrat Travis Childers.  They’ve also thrown in a grand on phonebanking.

This is really huge.  The DCCC has raised the stakes quite considerably.  In total, they’ve now spent $1.1 million on the race to replace Roger Wicker.  (With $950K or so of that coming after the April 22nd special primary.)  Will the cash-strapped NRCC follow suit?

They probably can’t afford not to.

Special election: 5/13.

PS: We are only $40 short of our $2300 goal for Travis Childers.  Will a hero emerge and put us over the top?  Remember, DavidNYC has pledged to match the first $250 donated today with his own contribution.  Let’s do this thing!

  1. This is such good news.

The DCCC is in it to win. And bankrupt the NRCC while they are at it!

  2. … when they can easily afford to, is making me feel really good about our chances there.

  3. Here is the word from MS.  The GOP is sending in Huckabee to campaign for Davis this weekend.  We have to work to mobilize the AA vote, and make sure they get out.  This will be the 4th time in 3 months voters have had to go to the polls for this race.

  4. I was expecting a few hundred thousand, at the most. $700,000 is a huge amount. That’s just… wow. I can’t wait to see the Republicans reply to this.

Either they match it, or at least come close, which would mean they are spending way more money than they can afford and even if they win here, it will be a Pyhrric victory.

Or they spend a token amount, which will be seen as them admitting they don’t have the cash to compete.

Or they pack up and go home, which will be seen as them admitting defeat.

    Which will it be, NRCC?

  5. we went ALL in; the repukes don’t have chips to call(by the way; KICK ASS CAZAYOUX); LA-06??wooy jenkins???? are you kidding me????

    1. – I love the Hulk pic – This made my day!  Thanks for posting~  Thumbs up guys!!!

  6. Very cleverly done. I doubt they needed to put that much in, but now they either put the NRCC in so much financial trouble that they’ll have to abandon seats all over the place in November, or they win an R+10 seat and sap morale enough that NRCC donations dry up.

  7. Won seats for Boyda and Ciro Rofriguez.  The won I alwys regretted was Dan Maffei.  OTOH the Republicans took polls constantly and decided not to fund Jim Leach and Jeb Bass and try to slide by.

Bankrupt them and this time the Kissells, Maffeis, and Stenders fall our way.  Linda Stender’s friend is a spender.  Hah hah hah.

  8. They didn’t need to spend ALL that $700k (and more to come probably) — There is opportunity cost and there are going to be around 430 races this year — and at the end there will be some marginal races that could be won, but the DCCC will not have the resources to fund more races.. I think $500k would have been enough here to still bankrupt the GOP, win the seat, and hold on to more cash for the fall.
